Siena Sojourn is a cultural immersion program in Siena, Italy, an hour south of Florence in Tuscany. It is an ideal "gap year" opportunity.... or enriching time-out option. With sessions in the fall and spring, Siena Sojourn is for culturally curious young adults 18 and older. It is particularly for those who want a very special international Gap Year adventure or break from the college routine. The extraordinary support, the global citizenship focus and the numerous and varied activities make Siena Sojourn unique. Highlights of Siena Sojourn are the homestay with an Italian host family, intimate Italian language classes, social service internships, midweek excursions, weekend trips and outdoor adventures. The diverse menu of other activities includes intermittent art and cooking classes, wine and cheese tastings, a journal writing and a digital photography workshop, an Italian film series, engaging cultural seminars, concerts and sports events. All this in a small, perfectly preserved medieval city in the cultural heart of Italy. The number of participants is intentionally limited to 12 in order to provide very personal and individualized experiences. "In a time when only technology counts and young people talk about nothing but SAT's, computers and the rat race of college admissions, it is a revelation that somebody is thinking of opening the minds and eyes of young people to culture, beauty, and the treasures of Italy. Lucky people who will have this opportunity. I will recommend Siena Sojourn to high school seniors as a gap year — or to college-bored people to recharge their batteries."
